Oak Park artist debuts exhibit at West Suburban Medical Center
More than a decade after giving birth to her children at West Suburban Medical Center, Oak Park artist Gina Lee Robbins returns to the hospital to exhibit her own unique artwork.
In conjunction with the Oak Park Art League, West Suburban is presenting Robbins' "Organic Chemistry" exhibit, which will run from Feb. 3 through April.
The exhibit includes wall sculptures made from clay, reclaimed bicycle tires and other found materials.
"I have high praise for Bike Fix, Barnard's Schwinn and Element Cyclesport, who have been kind enough to pass along used bicycle tubes for my use," Robbins said.
Though she was born in Chicago, Robbins grew up in Florida and moved to Oak Park in her 20s. Her father was from the Austin neighborhood, and her mother's family lived in Elmwood Park.
"When I moved to Oak Park, it was like coming home in a way," Robbins said. "I've spent a few years away since then, but have been living here with my husband, two sons and various pets for almost 20 years."
A member of the Oak Park Art League for seven years, Robbins said the opportunity to exhibit her work at West Suburban Medical Center was an opportunity she could not pass up.
